Nonprofit Organization Lawyers
501(c)(3) Incorporation Attorneys • Charity Fundraising Rules

In today's rapidly changing legal environment, your non-profit organization deserves high quality legal services at affordable fees. At Copilevitz & Canter, LLC our lawyers specialize in providing legal services to non-profit organizations nationwide. Our senior partners each have over 25 years of experience in representing non-profit organizations. C&C provides legal counsel to over 200 non-profit organizations, of all types, from churches to universities to private foundations to health care charities to professional and trade associations. We are familiar with the unique needs of non-profit organizations, such as obtaining and retaining tax-exempt status, avoiding unrelated business income tax (UBIT), executive compensation planning, and developing sophisticated and effective planned giving and capital campaign strategies.

We have extensive experience with both federal tax laws pertaining to non-profit organizations and state regulations governing solicitations. We defend non-profit organizations in IRS audits and in United States Tax Court and we defend non-profit organizations which are charged with violations of state solicitations laws.

We design formats which enable Code section 501(c)(3) organizations to optimize major gifts through the use of charitable remainder and lead trusts, bargain sales, and charitable gift annuities. We serve as planned giving counsel to colleges and universities and prepare "split-interest trusts" (CRAT, CRUT and CLT) and charitable gift annuities.

We maintain a special division within C&C which provides charitable solicitation registrations for charities (as well as CGA registrations) and registrations for fund raisers and fund raising counsel.
